360 breathing


360 Breathing is a cueing technique based on the basic mechanics of breathing. While some methods isolate one aspect of these mechanics, 360 breathing aims to facilitate the entirety of the mechanics of breathing as we know them. Use the above image of an umbrella opening and closing to coordinate with your breath. Note any areas in the canopy that are not expanding. Bring one or both of your hands to the area and continue to imagine the umbrella opening, expanding in all four sides as you inhale and closing as you exhale. Next, move to a different position, breathe again, imagine the umbrella, and notice any changes. Rinse and repeat in various positions for 3-5 minutes.
