WHAT IS YOUR BODY’S LIVED EXPERIENCE?
“among the impressive array of machines which humans have invented, there is none that even remotely compares to the subtle and marvelous complexity of the human body”
— THEODORE DIMON JR
the BODY SCHOOL
One of the more interesting things about our existence is the duality of our experience in our bodies — “we both are a body, and have a body” (Wehrle, 2019). Our bodies are not just objects we inhabit; they are living organisms experiencing the world. Unaware of these experiences, we can be caught off guard by pain and dysfunction —beginning to see our bodies as separate, as the enemy. At the Body School, our mission is to guide you in cultivating an intuitive relationship with your body while guiding it to efficient function. We believe that the body’s historical wisdom and innate intelligence provide what is needed for healing and vibrancy.

the JOURNAL
Entires into the Journal are from the initiative I founded called the Danseur Project (TDP). TPD is a community of committed dance medicine practitioners passionate about supporting and educating young dancers as they develop as artists. Though these entries center around dance the information is applicable to ALL bodies. I hope they stir a little something in you.

SCIENCE isn't always black and white, but it gets even muddier when it is unclear what factors determine their interpretation. It's often our interpretations that make it confusing.

How do you know what a stress response looks like in you? If you find yourself clenching your jaw = FIGHT, holding your breath = FREEZE, excessively exercising = FLIGHT. Happily, there are activities you can try to help shift out of this mode.

Injuries can be humbling, scary & sometimes frustrating. Yet, in dance, we are often fearful of stopping, slowing down, or speaking up about injuries because an injury is often seen as weakness &/or setback. And while that may be TRUE to some extent, an injury is also an OPPORTUNITY.
